WHAT DOES MOTORCYCLE INSURANCE COVER?
When it comes to covering your motorcycle, each carrier has unique options and choice. Coverages such as roadside assistance, trip interruption, and rental reimbursement could be added to your policy depending on the carrier. Below are some of the most common coverages other riders like you choose to select.
Bodily Injury Liability Coverage
If you are at fault in an accident and the other driver is injured, this will help pay for that driver’s medical expenses you are responsible for by law.
Property Damage Liability Coverage
If you are at fault in an accident and the other driver’s vehicle is damaged, this will help pay for that vehicle’s repairs.
Collision
Helps pay for repair or replacement for your motorcycle after an accident.
Comprehensive
This coverage is for damage to your motorcycle (while not driving), theft, accidents involving animals and vandalism.
Underinsured/Uninsured Motorist
Protects you from having to pay out of pocket for damages when the other driver is at fault and doesn’t have enough coverage or any coverage to pay for all the damages. Not available in all states.
Medical Expenses
Pays for your medical bills in case of injury.
HOW MUCH COVERAGE DO I NEED?
Depending on your state’s requirements, your coverage can vary. Most of the time Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability Coverages are required. Some states also require Underinsured/Uninsured motorist. If you are financing your motorcycle, Comprehensive and Collision are often required by your lienholder.
